Nordstrom —
Closer to You
An enduring campaign that connects us to what matters

Nordstrom —
Closer to You
In 2020, the world was different. We were different: isolated, navigating huge, new challenges, unsure of the future.
But some things — the most important things — remained: our capacity to show up for each other, to connect however we can, to appreciate the moment. During this time, we teamed up with Nordstrom to send a campaign out into the world, sharing what they were doing to keep their customers safe and supported, while focusing on the simple moments of connection that ultimately define the best in the humanity.

The Ask

Nordstrom wanted to capture the triumphs of the everyday through the closeness, care, and compassion we have with each other, resulting in a campaign about people taking care of people.

A scalable vision
We collaborated with Nordstrom on the Closer to You campaign in 2020, and were re-engaged for a second season in 2022 — this time for their Canadian audiences. Both iterations followed the same guiding principles, but employed a different approach, reflecting the real, ever-evolving circumstances of work during Covid.
The Idea
Create a narrative and visual style that reflects the moments that bring us closer, highlighting Nordstrom’s gratitude and commitment to customer care.
Our 2020 project took advantage of outdoor shooting, under the empathy-centered direction for LA-based Director Jazmin Garcia. Garcia, part of our global network of creators, was a perfect fit for the task at hand; her incredible sensitivity, her storytelling intuition, and her deep rooted values not only aligned with our mission, but helped set the tone while shooting under Covid complexities.

Emerging talent Kevin Calero directed the second season in 2022, and brought a fresh perspective to our storytelling approach. Casting real people to reflect real emotional connection, we shot close, intimate moments that highlighted how the smallest gesture, the mundane everyday routines, can be the stuff of love, magic, life.
Big Love
“It’s about evoking a feeling in people, not about creating a fantasy. That feeling that conjures up warmth, comfort, safety and inspiration.” - Jazmin Garcia, Director
Championing Authentic Stories
For Closer to You, we wanted to remind the world that simple pleasures can be radical, so we focused our lens on exalting the details of life — helping a sibling tie a shoe, or a forehead kiss when you think no one’s watching.
Training our eye on these details helped bring our narrative to life, positioning Nordstrom as a brand who prioritizes authenticity, compassion, and people.

Timeless and timely stories
Story finding can — and should — lead to unexpected places. We started by telling stories of connection, and ended with stories told by connected people.
Our approach to storytelling, crafting timeless stories (how we survive through each other’s love and care) in a timely way (we needed this more than ever during Covid), allows us the flexibility to respond to the world and provide the stories it needs most.
