Two truths: AI is rapidly influencing our world. The next generation is already stepping up to shape its future.

We partnered with AWS to showcase recipients of their AI & ML scholarship, amplifying the dynamic stories of underserved and underrepresented students who are leading the charge. While their individual stories are diverse and distinct, they all share a common beating heart: an innate drive to usher in a more equitable, ethical, and humane vision of AI.

The Ask

The AWS AI & ML scholarship is a powerful entry point for its international recipients. But AWS wanted to share its mission even more widely to further inspire advocacy and opportunity.

A focus on humanity

Learning about the profound passion, contributions, and ambitions of AWS scholarship recipients, we knew that the most compelling approach would be to hand them the mic directly. Not only in relation to tech, but the full breadth of experiences that shape them as people. Their dreams. Their stories. Their future.

The Idea

Let our heroes tell their own stories, from challenges, to breakthroughs, to defining their vision of a Future Self.

Defining a narrative

Balancing documentary-like video with more playful UCG, we honed in on a scalable style and marketing cadence that captured the multifaceted lives of our subjects. We provided them with cameras to record what they notice in the world, and facilitated interviews to learn about what makes them tick, keeps them moving, what they dream about.

We designed for every element of these videos, from art direction, to visual treatment, to script, all centered on story-led experiences that lead to human conversation and connection.

Our videos took us from California to Rotterdam to Nairobi and more. Our nimble team worked alongside local collaborators to honor these stories while staying agile and respectful. These are intimate stories that highlight people and place, and we minimized disruption to let them — and the community that supports them — shine.

We created two seasons of this series for AWS, having successfully launched the first iteration from creative concept through post-production.
