Fantasy Football is real friendships. Real rivalries. Real stories. ESPN is its home. To celebrate the newest season of Fantasy Football, we created a campaign that brought true stories to life, proving that “only in fantasy” do our wildest, 11th-hour trades, homemade trophy dreams come true.
The Ask
Reward millions of fantasy fans by honoring real league stories, sparking recognition through unforgettable recreated moments.
Defining a narrative approach
Instead of a documentary-style approach, our campaign recreated true events, capturing the verve, energy, humor, and friendships that made each spot feel like a mini movie. Spanning from the 70s (hello, mustaches!) to current day, this approach shows that what drives us to connect and compete in Fantasy Football is real, universal, and timeless.

Reflect the cheers, beers, and tears that only Fantasy Footballers know, drawing from authentic stories that define the tradition
Story finders
Finding authentic stories began with scouring the internet, social listening, interviewing commissioners, and ended with a proprietary database to find, vet, and choose stories from multiple community sources. Our mission was to leverage our community reach to find relatable stories that we haven’t heard before — the weird, the wild, the historic — and facilitate the strategic collaboration required from a tight timeline.
From crafting real stories — with our director writing dozens of scripts — to production prep in real time, to being responsive and insightful as we pivoted directions, to best-in-class post production, our work set the tone so the stories were always prioritized.
Big Love
True story
There are millions of leagues out there, but they’re all unique in their own way. It’s this magic ingredient that we were looking for, and which created the most compelling, emotionally resonant films. Our director, Mike Egan, had been in a fantasy football league, adding streamlined authenticity and efficiency to our process.
We had to limit production to a single location that could house a 70s era garage, a modern dining room, and a college hangout zone. From set design to extraordinarily efficient shoot schedules, our team came together to create impactful films in only two days.
