Impulse Protection.

Video

The hand-cranked zucchini spiralizer. The French language immersion program on VHS. The at-home ice cream maker you’ve used to make, you know, zero cones of ice cream. We all know the infamous lure of the impulse buy, the slick product masquerading as the promise of a new life, one in which we run a boutique creamery and speak fluent French and eat Zoodles.

It’s why Revery was excited to partner with Petal – a new credit card with impulse-buy protection (in other words, a cash-back bonus that helps protect you from…you). We teamed up with Portland-based Director Mike Egan to produce a campaign that would launch Petal’s new card. Together, we captured 5 hero videos plus a series of cutdowns and social content for Petal to use across their digital advertising channels.

The beating heart behind this campaign? The story of the impulse buy – the universal experience of wanting to capture a feeling or a moment or a memory in the form of a purchase, and the tragic comedy of that purchase inevitably falling short. Our spots centered around objects that told a story of their own, the sort of charming, nostalgic narrative that bewitches you upon first sight. We designed an abstract set – a confined, confession-style stage that would spotlight the object, the purchaser, the inherent humor, and ultimately highlight the distinct and beautiful design of the Petal card itself.

We were challenged with a quick production timeline, plus a few quick pivots – midway through production, as creative merged with prep, Petal invested in more spots plus an additional series of cutdowns, so we ramped up our efforts for a total of 18 deliverables. But we’re always excited for the opportunity to tell a few more stories, especially ones that hit us close to home. After all, the best antidote to shame is confession, a few shared laughs, and the reminder that it’s okay – we’ve all been there before.

Anyway, how’s that high-speed immersion blender treating you?
