A Love Story

No. 1

This is A Love Story. It features 25 strangers, friends, and family members in our communities and asks them to speak about love. About what it means to tell your own story. About being human.

Why make a film with no client or agenda beyond our own beating hearts? A Revery project through and through, we created this film as a compass for our future. As storytellers in service to people, love, and story, it felt right to amplify the voices of others. To ask honest — sometimes messy — questions.

To listen. To embrace love and the human experience in all its complexities.

The Ask

Create a love letter to humanity, one that values people’s stories. And just happens to represent who we are and what we believe in.

A compass, not a map

A film about storytelling itself, we sat down with people across cities we call home and handed them the mic. What does it mean to embrace your identity? To share your story? To grieve, to dance, to imagine a new future? To love? Telling human stories is the most powerful way we can connect to each other. Often, it’s the only way.

Rather than using this opportunity to talk about ourselves, we opted to reach out, not in. Create friends out of strangers. Find truth in expansive stories. Ask questions and trust that the things people tell us would lead the way.

The Idea

We have a responsibility to one another, and can use our skills and resources to amplify the things that unite us.

Storytelling as an act of care

We believe that what unites us is greater than what divides us, and that our work is so much bigger than any one of us. Creating a film that centers our community spreads love out into the world during a time that needs it. And a documentary was the perfect vehicle.

Docs don’t require perfection — they require presence. They ask us to be vulnerable in order to sit together and allow that moment to expand into something real. An innate urge to be seen truthfully, to value our collective stories.

For the people in A Love Story, we hope they feel honored. We hope they know their experiences are worthy of being shared. Because they are.

Big Love

“If we don’t tell our own stories, someone else will. And when the stories aren’t told, we all suffer the consequences of not knowing the fullness, or beauty, of other people’s stories.” – Ime Etuk

A call to action

We hope this film encourages all of us to keep asking questions, to use our voice and platforms for belonging and connection, to listen to each others’ stories. This is both a simple and deeply powerful act. It’s a purpose we believe in, and will always fight for. Because if we can use our craft to build new ways for people to contribute and belong, what greater purpose is there?

Forging connection

Connection is what we’re all hungry for. Stories are how we feed that hunger.
